City Manager Announces Execution of Memorandum of Understanding

Post Date:06/05/2019

Joliet, IL — On September 18, 2018, the City of Joliet and Joliet Community Baseball and Entertainment LLC (Slammers) entered into a five-year Agreement for the Lease and Operation (Lease Agreement) of the City’s stadium. Pursuant to the terms of the Lease Agreement, the Slammers shall act as the City’s exclusive agent in the selling or licensing of the naming rights to the stadium and the City has the right to approve the terms of the naming rights agreement. The City of Joliet is pleased to announce the Slammers have successfully entered into a multi-year partnership with DuPage Medical Group, the largest independent, multi-specialty physician group in Illinois, on a comprehensive, multi-element corporate partnership package.

The Lease Agreement provides the City with the right to approve the terms but does not specify the approval procedure. Interim City Manager Martin Shanahan has exercised the City’s right to approve said terms on June 4, 2019 by executing a Memorandum of Understanding. The Memorandum of Understanding is attached and outlines the major provisions.

“I would like to personally thank DuPage Medical Group for their investment in Joliet and I look forward to a successful relationship for many years to come,” said Shanahan. “Congratulations to the Slammers for their tireless efforts and persistence to secure a naming rights agreement with DuPage Medial Group.”

“We look forward to an in-person meeting with DuPage Medical Group to discuss the re-branding of the stadium and to share our ideas and concepts relative to the entrance of the stadium,” said Shanahan. “In addition, since the payment of naming rights revenue is made to the Slammers, I will ensure, after proper accounting, the City receives its fair share after deduction of expenses. DuPage Medical Group and the Slammers will both be a party to those discussions.”

After discussions with DuPage Medical Group and the owners of the Slammers, the City Council will likely address Resolution 7197 regarding the naming of the stadium.

Group tickets, ticket plans, and individual game tickets for the Joliet Slammers are on sale. For more information, visit or call the Box Office at (815) 722-2287. To learn more about DuPage Medical Group, visit
