Historic Preservation Award Nominations Due Soon!
Nominations for the Annual Joliet Historic Preservation Award are due March 1, 2020. The City of Joliet bestows this annual award, which recognizes properties that have undergone recent exterior and/or interior preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, or sympathetic additions, as well as people who exhibit dedication to the field of historic preservation.
Last year’s winners included:
- the Old Joliet Prison Preservation Coalition for their dedication in preserving, stabilizing, promoting, and revitalizing the old Joliet Prison
- the Old Joliet Prison Burnt District Artists for their dedication in reinterpreting prison history through their multi-faceted and creative adaptive reuse of “garbage,” “debris” and/or “salvage” located at the abandoned prison
- 708 Western Avenue for the exterior preservation work on the 1888 Queen Anne style home, which had sat vacant for over fifteen years
- 513 Western Avenue for the exterior preservation work on the 1896 Queen Anne style home
To nominate a property or person for this award, nomination forms can be found on the City’s Historic Preservation Commission website http://cityofjoliet.info/government/boards-commissions/joliet-historic-preservation-commission/annual-historic-preservation-award or, can be picked up in the Community Development Department at City Hall located at 150 W. Jefferson Street.
