Hydrant Testing to Begin in Joliet on May 26

Post Date:05/21/2026 12:01 PM

The Joliet Fire Department will begin Phase I of its annual hydrant testing program on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Testing will be conducted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is expected to continue for approximately six weeks, depending on weather conditions and emergency call volume.

During Phase I, hydrant testing will take place in the following areas of the City:

Station #3 (450 E. Laraway Road):

  • The geographical area bounded by I-80 to the North, Gougar Road to the East, Manhattan Road to the South, and S. Vetter Road to the West.

Station #7 (125 Houbolt Road):

  • The geographical area bounded by Black Road to the North, Infantry Drive to the East, Black Road to the South, and Bronk Road to the West.

Station #8 (2293 Essington Road):

  • The geographical area bounded by W. Renwick Road to the North, Infantry Drive to the East, Black Road to the South, and I-55 to the West.

The Fire Department will take precautions to minimize the impact of temporary rusty or discolored water that may occur during hydrant testing.

If rust staining occurs on clothing, the City of Joliet provides a rust-removal treatment that can be used during the washing process. Do not place affected clothing in the dryer until it has been properly rewashed and rinsed using the treatment, as drying may set the stain permanently.

The rust-removal treatment is available at any Joliet Fire Station. Residents who are unable to pick up the product may contact the Water Department at (815) 724-4220 or the Joliet Fire Department at (815) 724-3500 for assistance.
