Illinois Small Business Development Center (ISBDC) at College of DuPage
The ISBDC is part of a statewide network of small business resource providers, collaborating with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). It is one of the small business service providers in the Illinois Entrepreneurship Network and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Their mission is to provide free management assistance and advice to aid emerging and existing small businesses as they develop. The center counsels nearly 600 small business and entrepreneurial clients per year by delivering up-to-date counseling, training and technical assistance in many aspects of small business management. Clients range from start-up through existing businesses that seek ways to improve, develop or finance their organizations.

Business Registration

City of Joliet - Business Registration
The City of Joliet requires registration of all businesses with the exception of home based businesses and any business that holds a current business license from the City of Joliet. All business registrants shall have a continuing obligation to provide the city with any change in information previously provided to the city. Any new business that is subject to registration shall provide the necessary registration information within thirty (30) days of the commencement of business.

Assumed Business Name
An assumed business name means any business name that is not the full, true, and correct name of a person. An assumed business name must be differentiated on the record from an assumed business name that is already registered or from any corporation's name, limited partnership name, limited liability company name, limited liability partnership name, trademark, or service mark registered or reserved with the Secretary of State.

Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR)
You must register with the Illinois Department of Revenue if you conduct business in Illinois, or with Illinois customers. This includes sole proprietors (individual or husband/wife). You will also need to obtain your Illinois Business Sales Tax (IBT) number (tax id number).

Mayor’s Office - Liquor Commissioner
Liquor License Any business or organization serving or selling alcohol must obtain a license through the Mayor's Office - Liquor Commissioner. Phone: 815.724.3700

Department of Community and Economic Development
This Department oversees the following areas: Building, Historic Preservation, Neighborhood Services, Planning and Zoning.

Building Division - inspections Prior to opening a new business the Building Division must complete an inspection to determine compliance with applicable Joliet Codes. Call 815.724.4070 to schedule an inspection.

Planning and Zoning Division – proper zoning Prior to signing a lease, you should contact the Planning and Zoning Division to determine if the proposed location has proper zoning for your proposed use or if additional approvals will be required. They can be contacted at 815.724.4050.

City Clerk Department

Business Services – licenses Certain businesses are licensed by the City of Joliet. Prior to opening a new business or modifying an existing one, you should check with Business Services to determine if a business license is required. They can be contacted at 815.724.3905.

Finance Department - water billing Contact Customer Service regarding placing your name on the water bill account. They can be contacted at 815.724.3820.

The Will County Center for Economic Development (CED) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit foundation, created by the business community in 1981. Governed by a 50-member board and managed by a professional staff, the CED is responsible for attracting and retaining jobs for Will County. Small Business Administration 
The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) has a number of services available. They include training and educational programs, advisory services, publications, financial programs and contract assistance.
