Business Services is responsible for receiving, processing, and issuing applications, licenses, and license renewals. Applications for licenses are reviewed by various city departments prior to issuance. In some cases a business may be required to have several licenses. All business licenses are valid for one calendar year beginning January 1st and expiring on December 31st. Licenses are not transferable and are required for each location.
The City of Joliet requires registration of all businesses with the exception of home based businesses and any business that holds a current business license from the City of Joliet. All business registrants shall have a continuing obligation to provide the city with any change in information previously provided to the city. Any new business that is subject to registration shall provide the necessary registration information within thirty (30) days of the commencement of business.
