Residential Building Permits
The following permits require review from the Planning Division.

A plat of survey is required for all permits for installation of, replacement of, and additions to fences, decks, pools, patios (with or without a roof), driveways, driveway aprons, sidewalks, garages, pergolas and similar structures, and additions. This includes the replacement of flatwork (driveways, aprons, sidewalks) with the same dimensions and location.
If your property is part of a Homeowners Association on this list, you will need to bring in a copy of the HOA approval as part of the permit.
To apply for your residential building permit, please submit the following by email (email@example.com) or by mail:
- Application form
- Plat of survey with the proposed project(s) clearly indicated and marked (Click here for an example).
- Homeowners Association Approval (if required)
- Construction drawings (if required)

Decks/Sheds/Covered Patios/Pergolas/Foundation Repair

Processing time varies for each individual project. We will contact you directly if more information is needed after your initial submission. Please avoid requesting status updates until after the estimated time frame has been exceeded. Thank you for your cooperation.
If a contractor is performing the work, then the contractor must be the one to pull the permit (per Sec. 8-36 of the City of Joliet Code of Ordinances).
