The City of Joliet has created a public notification plan to ensure that the public receives adequate notification in the event of an overflow. This program was developed in compliance with the requirements of the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) General Permit No. IL0022519. Public Hearing concerning the City of Joliet's Long-Term Control Plan for the operation of a combined sewer system

Long Term Control Plan (LTCP)
The City of Joliet owns and operates a publicly owned treatment works (POTW) consisting of separate sanitary sewers, combined (stormwater and sanitary) sewers, a 36-inch siphon river crossing, and three wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The East Side WWTP serves a 14-square-mile service area on both sides of the Des Plaines River. This plant has the oldest collection system and is the focus of this LTCP.

2014 Sewer Capital Plan
The City of Joliet is preparing to construct the Westside Interceptor Improvements and the DesPlaines River Sewer Overflow Tunnel. Funding for the project will be through the State of Illinois Clean Water Initiative Revolving Loan Program. The 2014 Sewer Capital Plan also includes replacement of the Eastside Influent Pumping Station and the Route 6 Sanitary Sewer System Upgrades. The City is developing an electronic Address Book containing a list of email addresses of interested parties. The Address Book will be updated on an as-needed basis as other members of the public will be able to sign up to receive e-mail notification of CSO events. These parties will be sent an email alert in the event of a known CSO.
