Ms. Gavin has been the Executive Director of the Forest Park Community Center since August of 2012. She is also one of the founding members of the Quality of Life Task Force of Joliet as well as being the Executive Director of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., serving as Administrative Assistant to the National President of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc.  Ms. Gavin also served as the Community Organizer/Executive Director of the Joliet Area Church Organized Body (JACOB) in Joliet from 2005 to 2010.

A graduate of the University of Miami, Ms. Gavin received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing in 1970.  She has been the recipient of many honors over the years, including:

  • Woman of the Year Award (American Business Women’s Association) 1998
  • National President’s Award (National Hook-Up of Black Women) 2004, 2008, 2010
  • MLK Leadership Award, 2007
  • Leadership Award (National Hook-Up of Black Women) 2009
  • Shero’s Award (National Hook-Up of Black Women) 2011
  • Citizens Award (Omega Si Phi, Nu Phi Chapter) 2013
  • Ray Bolden’s Seekers of Justice Award (IL Black Bar Association) 2014

Councilwoman Gavin serves on the following committees: Communication Technology and Information Systems, Diversity and Community Relations, Prison and Public Service.
