Experience downtown Joliet like never before. Whether you’re here for live music, a community festival, or just a sunny afternoon stroll, our Social District allows you to enjoy your favorite beverages while exploring the heart of our city.

How it Works:

• Sip & Stroll: Grab a drink from a participating downtown business and feel free to explore within the designated Social District boundaries. Just look for the official Social District signs! • Look for the Cup: To keep things safe and official, all alcoholic beverages must be enjoyed in the specially marked Social District cups provided by your server.

• Check the Clock: The district is active daily from 4PM - 10PM, May 1 - September 30 and 4PM - 9PM, October 1 - April 30. It’s the perfect way to transition from a workday to a relaxing evening. • Stay Local: While you can walk the Square with your drink, please remember that Social District beverages stay within the district boundaries and cannot be taken into other businesses unless they specifically display a "Social District Friendly" sign.

A Quick Reminder: To keep our Square beautiful for everyone, please use the designated recycling and trash bins for your cups before you head home or leave the district.

FAQ's

1. What is a social district?

The new social district enables individuals 21 and older to consume alcoholic beverages sold by qualified establishments within the designated social zone. Beverages will be sold in approved cups with a branded City Square social district sticker.

 2. Where is the social district?

Area includes Chicago Street from Jefferson to Cass and City Square.

3. What are the hours of operation?

• Daily 4pm-10pm (May 1-September 30)
• Daily 4pm-9pm (October 1-April 30)

4. Can I bring or consume my own beverage in the social district?

No. Individuals cannot bring or consume outside beverages – all beverages must be purchased from participating establishments within the social district during hours of operation. Beverages will be sold in approved cups with a branded City Square social district sticker.

5. Can I exit the social district with a properly obtained beverage?

No. Properly obtained beverages can only be enjoyed within the social district, which will be marked with signage. Leaving the Social District with an alcoholic beverage may result in a fine.
