Waste Management will resume bulk Item pickup for residents that pay for municipal waste on their water and sewer bills on regularly scheduled garbage and recycling pickup days starting Monday, May 11, 2020. Bulk items are defined as furniture, mattresses, carpet and appliances.
Residents are asked to call (815) 280-7854 to notify Waste Management when placing a bulk item out for pick-up at their location. Additionally, residents are asked to limit their bulk items to 1 per week until the volume returns to normal in a few weeks. This is strictly to ensure that WM collection teams can complete all the core services each week.
For garbage, recycling and yard waste questions, contact Waste Management Customer Service Center at 815-280-7854 OR live chat with them at www.wm.com (scroll towards the bottom and click on CHAT and enter your information). Chat is available from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday only. Customer Service Center is available 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturdays.
Residential recycling and garbage is picked up weekly. Yard waste pickup began on March 9, 2020 and will end on December 11, 2020. Yard waste is picked up weekly on the same day as garbage and recycling.
Please remember to always have your garbage, recycling and yard waste out at the curb by 7 a.m. on your pickup day.
Electronics and household hazardous wastes can be disposed can be disposed of for free through Waste Management’s At Your Door Special Collection program picks up electronic wastes and household hazardous wastes from your home for free if you pay for municipal waste on your water and sewer bill. The City of Joliet has contracted with Waste Management, Inc., to provide collection service for garbage, recyclables, and landscape waste (during season) throughout the City of Joliet on 5 different days of the week. On certain holidays, the collection service does not occur on the scheduled day, but collection service resumes on the following day. The Holiday Collection Schedule for 2020 is listed below. Remodeling? Waste Management can provide 10, 15, 20, or 30 cubic yard containers for your home improvement project. Call Waste Management customer service department at 815-280-7854 for a quote. Additionally, Waste Management has provided 100 bagsters to the City of Joliet for its residents for free. One bagster per household until they run out are available at 150 W. Jefferson St (City Hall), Joliet, IL 60432. Bagsters normally cost approximately $30 at local hardware stores and they are 3 cubic yards. This is ideal for small construction projects and cleanouts. Citizens will still be required to pay the cost of pickup, which is approximately $176 (prices subject to change). Citizens would need to call 1-877-789-2247 to arrange for the bagster to be picked up. If you were to get a dumpster this size it would cost approximately $300 (prices subject to change).
Medications (unused, expired or unwanted)
Medication should NEVER be discarded down the drain or thrown into the garbage. Unused, expired and unwanted medication is a health and safety risk, as well as a potential threat to waterways. Drop off locations for medications are located at several locations in Joliet and in Will County.
Residents should research to make sure the medication(s) you are trying to discard qualify for drop off at any of the locations prior to dropping off. For locations and more information, please click here.
