Abatements of property taxes may be approved for business development or redevelopment that meets certain criteria. This includes the level of job creation, compensation of workforce, total investment in plant and capital, and business sectors being targeted by the County. Also, the City of Joliet offers a sales tax sharing program. This program is an agreement made by a local government (municipality or county) to share or rebate any portion of retailers’ occupation taxes generated by retail sales of tangible personal property.
